Early Modern Europe

HIST 202
Fall 2015
Section: 01
Certificates: International Relations
Course Cluster: Christianity Studies

This introductory course surveys the history of Europe from approximately 1500 to 1800, paying special attention to intellectual, religious, and political developments during this timeframe. Topics will include the Protestant and Catholic reformations; the French wars of religion; the scientific revolution; the Enlightenment; and the French Revolution, among others. As with any survey, depth will often be sacrificed for breadth; but we will counteract this necessary feature by considering key and carefully selected texts in greater detail.
