The Ebony Singers will be a study of black religious music through the media of performance. The areas of study will consist of traditional gospel, contemporary gospel, spirituals, and hymns in the black tradition. The members of the group will be chosen through a rigorous audition (with certain voice qualities and characteristics.)

Essential Capabilities: Designing, Creating, and Realizing, Intercultural Literacy
Designing, creating, and realizing: The course teaches students primarily to perform, but also to discuss and analyze this specific music. Emphasis will be on the original design and presentation of certain genres and styles. A concert at the end of the semester will be part of the assignments.

Intercultural Literacy: By studying music from different nationality, ethnic group, or historical period, students will gain knowledge of cross-cultural encounter; hence promoting a comparative reflection.
