Advanced Fiction Workshop|
This course in short or shortish fiction is for people who have already had an introduction to fictional technique and, preferably, an additional course in creative writing. Students will generate and engage in their own writing projects. Readings will be tailored somewhat to the interests of the class. Heavy workshop component; students will make copies of their own work and distribute them to the class at least a week in advance of its being discussed.

Students must provide copies of their own stories to their classmates at least a week in advance of the discussion of them. There will be a steady diet of published short stories by a variety of authors as well.

Several short exercises, three short stories, one revision, and two short craft papers; portfolio of all written work at the end of the semester.

This course is a workshop: Attendance at and participation in every class are required. To apply for this course, please submit 5 double-spaced pages of creative prose. Please also submit a cover page in two parts: 1) your name, email address, year in school, major, some of your favorite writers and any other influences, and 2) a short biographical statement (a paragraph) describing your history with and interest in writing. There will be two deadlines for submission of materials, one during fall pre-registration and the other on January 18, 2010. If you are applying for the course in January, please submit your materials electronically in a single attachment email@example.com no later than 10 a.m. on Monday, January 18, 2010. If you are applying to more than one writing workshop, please note your ranking of these courses within your application.
