E&ES 281
Spring 2007
Section: 01
Course Cluster: Service-Learning

This course will supplement E&ES 280 Environmental Geochemistry by providing students with a "hands on" experience of the concepts taught in E&ES 280. The course will emphasize the field collection, chemical analysis, and data analysis of environmental water, air, and sediment samples. Samples will include soils, groundwaters, river waters, lake waters, and lake sediments. Students will learn a variety of geochemical analytical techniques and work on individual and group projects. Grades are based on the quality of written reports, conceptual understanding of laboratory concepts, and on presentations. The Spring 2007 course is scheduled to focus on the cultural eutrophication and remediation of Beseck Lake as part of a Service Learning course. This Service Learning project is in cooperation with the Beseck Lake Association and students will present their results to the Beseck Lake Association near the end of the semester.
