Positive Psychology
PSYC 258
Summer 2014
Section: 01

Positive psychology aims to apply the findings from the discipline of psychology to the improving the lives of everyday people. We will examine the concept of happiness, how people experience positive and negative feelings, and the life circumstances and practices that promote wellbeing. We will also consider how psychology can be applied to better people's interpersonal relationships and their pursuits in education and the work force. Finally, we will consider how positive psychology can help institutions, such as governments, schools, and employers, to promote wellbeing among those they serve. A major component of the course is a personal project in which students will apply practices from positive psychology to their own lives and evaluate their effectiveness. Readings will be taken both from the popular science literature and peer-reviewed journals. In addition to the final! project, students will take a midterm and a final exam.
